Useful to monitor eating habits!

In the treatment of diabetes, the diet is essential for positive metabolic control. The quantity of carbohydrates assumed during a meal is the most significant value impacting postprandial glycemia. The FotoDietometro allows people with diabetes to determine their preprandial insulin requirement thanks to a quick view of images relating to meal sizes, and information on by-gram weight as well as carbohydrate and calorie counting.

Easy to use, anytime

The Carbohydrate Counting is a technique that permits to determine with accuracy the amount of carbohydrates in foods a subject is about to consume.  Thanks to photographic images, the FotoDietometro helps diabetic patients to “recognize” the meal size they are going to consume and determine its carbohydrate counting. An accurate reading of the carbohydrates contained in the entire meal is essential to determine a patient’s pre-prandial insulin requirement, thus avoiding an excessive increase of the postprandial glucose index.

Combined with expert medical advice and recommendations, this compact, easy-to-use brochure teaches people with diabetes to recognize foods and their carbohydrate contents, which is very beneficial to their health. This pocket-size brochure is essentially a valuable food education tool, whose chief purpose is to help people with diabetes to identify the correct meal size, based upon its volume, weight, and carbohydrate content.

For better readability, all foods are subdivided into macro classes identified by different colours. Each food features its gram weight, carbohydrate content (CHO), and calories (Kcal). An asterisk shows meal sizes containing fats in amount higher than 5 grams. It is important to remember that a food particularly rich in fats and proteins can increase glucose levels 4 to 8 hours after the meal. The second part of the Photobook features a table listing high-carbohydrate content foods, as well as proteins, fats, carbohydrates and calories contained in a 100 gram portion. The FotoDietometro allows to identify and utilize the insulin-carbohydrate ratio, which is particularly beneficial to the health of people with diabetes.

The selected foods are gathered exclusively from official certified sources, and in particular: the Nutrient Database for Epidemiological Studies in Italy (IEO) and The Scotti-Bassani Institute’s Photo Atlas, in addition to nutrition labels of packaged foods.
